When looking at the nearly four decades of success TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has experienced, you can pinpoint one constant since from the very beginning: hard working movers and drivers.
Without these individuals, there would be no TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. They’re the ones doing the heavy lifting, going from home to home, business to business, and helping move our customers forward. That’s why we make sure to recognize the efforts of these individuals whenever we can, with the ultimate recognition coming in the form of the National Move Hero Award.
Beginning in 2018, this award was created to highlight those who go above and beyond the normal job responsibilities. These are individuals who not only excel in moving, but who are leaders amongst their teams and communities. Candidates are nominated by their franchisees and a winner is determined by the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK executive team and flown out to our Annual Conference event to be recognized on the national stage.
The 2024 National Move Hero Award winner was Brendan McGarry of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Mooresville, North Carolina franchise. You can learn more about his story in the video below.
D’Angello Thompson – Plano, Texas
Thompson was the winner of the 2020 National Move Hero award, and he now works as a Driver and Regional Trainer for the Plano, Texas franchise.
After winning the award, he said more people from around the system recognize him, and he has become more of a leader because of the recognition.
“Other movers from different franchises recognize me and people value my opinion more,” Thompson said. “More team members seek guidance from me.”
He points to his team and peers as a big motivator in keeping him in this role, and he’s thankful for all of the opportunities that have come his way during his time with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.
“I love helping people and having fun, and I have gained so many incredible experiences from working with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK,” Thompson said. “I love giving back to the community and helping North Texas move forward.”
James Lawrence – Cobb South, Georgia
Lawrence took home the 2021 National Move Hero Award, and even though his trip to Annual Conference was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he’s still gained plenty of recognition within the company.
“Since winning the award, I’ve gained more recognition within the company, which allows me to take on new challenges and responsibilities,” Lawrence said. “However, what hasn’t changed is my commitment to putting 100% into every job and maintaining the high level of customer service I’ve always strived for.”
He’s now the lead interstate driver for the Cobb South franchise, and also works as an assistant manager. He has a ton of experience and can guide new hires through the beginning stages of job, keeping them motivated and on track as they get comfortable in their roles.
“What’s kept me here for over a decade is the company’s commitment to its employees and customers,” Lawrence said. “My favorite part of the job is knowing that I’m helping people during stressful times and delivering a service that truly makes a difference. I also love mentoring new drivers and sharing my knowledge with the team.”
David Busch – Des Moines, Iowa
Busch was the winner of the 2023 National Move Hero Award, and as a 13-year TWO MEN AND A TRUCK employee, he’s seen just about everything there is to see on the job. He’s the lead driver and trainer for the Des Moines, Iowa franchise, but it’s business as usual for him after winning the award; he’s here to do a job and do it well.
“Nothing has changed for me, really,” Busch said. “I just go out and make my customers happy. If I don’t make my customers happy, then I don’t give myself a good name and I don’t give TWO MEN AND A TRUCK a good name. So, that’s how it’s always been.”
One thing that has changed since winning the award? Busch’s son is now a part of the Des Moines team, working with him on the trucks and helping move people forward. Between having his son on the team with him and the relationships he’s built for more than a decade, it’s family atmosphere for Busch, and he’s thankful for the opportunities the job has provided him over the years.
“They give me the tools I needed to succeed, and they always compliment me on how well I do,” Busch said. “The whole group here – the managers are awesome; I’ve known them all for years. They just keep me plugging away. I love the work.”
